WI Supreme Court Drop Box Decision

The Republican Party of Brown County is outraged by the recent decision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court to reinstate ballot boxes. This ruling undermines the integrity of our elections and blatantly disregards the laws designed to ensure a secure and transparent voting process. It also demonstrates the overt political bias of the liberal majority as they have overturned the same court's ruling from only 2 years ago when the majority wrote: “…ballot drop boxes are illegal under Wisconsin statutes. An absentee ballot must be returned by mail or the voter must personally deliver it to the municipal clerk at the clerk’s office or a designated alternate site.”

Ballot boxes compromise the fundamental principle of chain of custody, which is essential for maintaining the security and reliability of our votes. The use of ballot boxes introduces significant risks, including the potential for tampering and fraud, which erode public trust in our electoral system.

Wisconsin voters must question why liberals would insist on the use of ballot boxes when it is already easy for voters to vote in person or to mail in their ballots. This insistence only raises suspicions about their motives. Why push for a method that introduces unnecessary risks when secure alternatives are readily available?

We agree with Rep. Tom Tiffany' statement:  “Just after Wisconsinites voted overwhelmingly to bolster election integrity in the state, the liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court voted to overturn a previous precedent they set, effectively legalizing anonymous ballot box stuffing. This decision not only opens the door to potentially fraudulent activities but also undermines the expressed desires of Wisconsin voters.”

The Republican Party of Brown County will continue to fight for fair and secure elections.

ICYMI: WisGOP, RNC, Rock and Walworth County GOP’s File to Intervene in Election Integrity Lawsuit

MADISON, Wis. — In case you missed it, the Republican Party of Wisconsin (WisGOP), Republican National Committee (RNC), along with Walworth County GOP, Rock County GOP, and RITE PAC filed to intervene in a recent election integrity lawsuit, Priorities USA v. Wisconsin Election Commission.

Last year, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that ballot drop boxes are not legal. The majority opinion clarified that, “only the legislature may permit absentee voting via ballot drop boxes. WEC cannot. Ballot drop boxes appear nowhere in the detailed statutory system for absentee voting. WEC’s authorization of ballot drop boxes was unlawful…”

Just days before the State’s highest court shifted to a far-left majority, national Democrats began their attack on Wisconsin election integrity. With a new liberal majority, national and Wisconsin Democrats are planning to misuse the court and make it their own arm of the Legislature. While national Democrats may want dark money and far-left policies to undermine Wisconsin elections, Wisconsinites want transparent and secure elections. Wisconsin Republicans will continue fighting to protect fair and free elections.

The charge by national Democrats to undo settled law is led by hyperpartisan and questionable characters like Hillary Clinton and Democrats’ go-to legal agitator, Marc Elias, and out-of-state dark money groups. While Democrats seek to undo voter protections like: requiring a witness signature on absentee ballots, pushing the “ballot curing” deadline to after Election Day, and reinstating unmonitored ballot drop boxes, Wisconsin Republicans are filing to ensure state statutes are followed.

“Despite the schemes of overtly far-left groups like Law Forward and the Elias Group, the Republican Party of Wisconsin will continue to ensure Wisconsin voters have full confidence in our elections. While Democrats attempt to undo common sense voting measures like requiring witness signatures on absentee ballots, we will continue to fight back against Democrat efforts to undermine safeguards every step of the way. Having safeguards in our elections should be a bipartisan issue; Wisconsinites in every corner of the state want fair and transparent elections.” — RPW Chairman Brian Schimming

“Wisconsin election integrity is under attack from far left dark-money groups bent on destroying basic voting safeguards, so the RNC, RPW, and RITE are legally intervening to ensure that Wisconsinites can have faith in their election process. As Democrats compete to see who can launch the most self-serving and frivolous attack on election integrity, Republicans remain committed to protecting your vote in the Badger State and nationwide.” – RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

RNC, RPW, and RITE PAC Move to Intervene in Wisconsin Election Integrity Lawsuit

WASHINGTON – Today, the Republican National Committee (RNC), Republican Party of Wisconsin (RPW), and RITE PAC moved to intervene in the Wisconsin election integrity case Priorities USA v. Wisconsin Elections Commission.

"Despite the schemes of overtly far-left groups like Law Forward and the Elias Group, the Republican Party of Wisconsin will continue to ensure Wisconsin voters have full confidence in our elections. While Democrats attempt to undo common sense voting measures like requiring witness signatures on absentee ballots, we will continue to fight back against Democrat efforts to undermine safeguards every step of the way. Having safeguards in our elections should be a bipartisan issue; Wisconsinites in every corner of the state want fair and transparent elections." — RPW Chairman Brian Schimming

Background

  • Democrats have suffered numerous election law losses in Wisconsin over the past year, and this newest lawsuit is a cynical attempt to stop their downward spiral.
  • Marc Elias is partnering with far-left dark money groups to try and get rid of basic, common-sense election safeguards that the majority of folks support.
    • This is the kind of self-serving legal chicanery that led the White House to cut ties with  Elias. As one of Biden’s allies recently shared with the press, “[Elias] has created a legal strategy he has convinced people is a political strategy, that it is actually a business strategy.”
  • Specifically, this lawsuit wants to get rid of witnesses for signing an absentee ballot, destroy basic deadlines to cure ballots, and flood the state with unmonitored absentee ballot drop boxes.
  • Democrats think that the recent election of a liberal Supreme Court justice in Wisconsin means that they can throw precedent and the rule of law out the window.
  • Wisconsinites deserve basic election integrity, not out-of-state dark money groups trying to make voting less secure and less transparent. The RNC has defeated these same lawyers bringing similar cases in other states.
  • When it comes to election law, Democrats have no substance to stand on, just hysterical left-wing talking points. Last cycle, the RNC and its partners secured numerous key election law wins in Wisconsin, including:
    • Teigen vs. Wisconsin Elections Commission, which banned ballot drop boxes and restricted ballot harvesting.
    • White vs. Wisconsin Elections Commission, which banned clerks from completing witness signature requirements that voters have to do themselves
    • DeLorey vs. City of Green Bay, which protected access for Republican election observers
  • Instead of competing fair and square at the ballot box, Democrats are trying to undo these decisions and destroy the rules of the road before 2024.
  • The RNC is involved in 50 active election integrity lawsuits in 16 states and will continue to fight Democrat election schemes in courtrooms across the country.
